
Serena Williams – She Rules!
Born in Saginaw Mi. on September 16, 1981, Serena Williams has been ranked # 1 in the World by the Woman's Tennis Organization on 4 separate occasions as of April 20, 2009. She is the reigning US Open and Australian Open champion and has 20 Grand Slam titles also. She is the most recent player male or female to hold all 4 Grand Slam Singles title in doubles competition.
Williams's tournament title record speaks for itself. In singles competition Williams holds 33 career titles. She was ranked # 1 on July 8, 2002.In doubles competition she holds 14 career titles. On Oct.1, 1999 she was ranked 5th. During the Olympic Games in 2002 she won a gold medal in 2002, and 2008 in major double competition.
Williams did not play in a tournament till 2004 due to extensive rehabilitation to her left knee in 2004 until March where she won the Sony Erickson Open where she defeated Elena Dedmentievain the final. In 2005 another injury caused her to take time off playing tennis and fall out of the top 10.
In 2006 at the Australian Open Williams lost to Daniela Hantuchovia in the third round where she withdrew from her next 4 tournaments and fell out of the top 100 ranking. In 2009 at the Wimbledon Championship she defeated Nausa Silvia in the first round 6-1, 7-5. Williams has over come many obstacles in her career and has always improved herself and comeback and surprised many people in her achievements.
